Parent involvement is crucial as children spend most of their time with their family. If skills are only practiced during therapy sessions 1 - 2 times a week functional outcomes are less likely. A parents understanding of therapy targets and how to practice them in structured (i.e. during therapy) and unstructured activities (i.e. at the grocery store) increases the speed and efficacy of therapeutic outcomes.

Therapy sessions can be conducted at your home, your childs’ daycare or other appropriate venues such as a play ground or alternate caregivers home. In addition, session location can be flexible based on the childs’ need. For example, skills can be trained at home, and then a session can take place at an alternate location to determine if they are able to use what they learned at home in another natural environment. Additionally, if your child is usually seen at daycare, a home visit can be arranged to allow for face to face time with the therapist and to complete progress monitoring to ensure trained skills are integrating into the home environment.
